TBL Artists in Residence Group Show II

Join us for a very special night of artistic expression with our second artists in residence group show, featuring talented students from Monticello High School!

The Black Library from its inception had the goal of housing studio spaces for local artists to have space to work. Following the conclusion of our first residency period and showcase, we invited students from the local high school to take part in our second residency period, and they have been hard at work since.

We are honored to offer a safe, creative, and inclusive space for our young people to express themselves, and we are excited to share an altogether amazing night full of artistic expression, something we will always welcome, encourage, and celebrate at The Black Library.

Poets and Painters

Join us for an immersive and collaborative artistic experience where poets and painters come together to engage in a dynamic exchange of creativity. During this workshop, poets will share their written works with local painters, who will then respond to these poems by creating original paintings inspired by the themes, emotions, and imagery within the poetry. Following the creation of each painting, the poets will in turn respond to the artwork by crafting new poems that explore and interpret the visual elements and concepts depicted in the painting. This process of reading and responding will continue throughout the duration of the workshop, fostering a dialogue between the written word and visual expression.

TBL Artist in residence group show Closing Reception

Join us for the final viewing of our artist in residence group show.

The Black Library from its inception had the goal of housing studio spaces for local artists to have space to work. In September we achieved that goal by giving four studio spaces to local artists, for a three month residency, ending with a group show. That show is now here. Our four artists; Malik Bridges, James Ivory, Jayln Thedford, and Cristal Ortiz, have been hard at work over the last three months and have so much to show you all. Altogether, it will be an amazing night full of artistic expression, something we will always welcome, encourage, and celebrate at The Black Library.

MiSN Aftershock Screening

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CSC) in 2021, the maternal mortality rate among Black women was nearly 70 deaths for every 100,000 live births. That is 2.6 times the rate for white women, regardless of income or education. Today, this number continues to rise.

Help MiSN and The Black Library raise awareness about this systemic issue by joining us for the screening of Aftershock - a documentary about the lives of two women in New York who tragically succumbed to complications after having Cesarean Sections in metropolitan hospitals.
